    Hello,

    I'm curious about XREF's
Normally i put the xref on layer '0' or a layer that is unlocked.

Sometimes i put it on a locked layer.
But when i reload the xref an internal error occures.
    (i don't remember which error)

Can i put a xref on any layer?
Which layerstatus is important for a xref?
Are there any other things that is forbidden?

  2. Xref's are like nested blocks.
The safest thing to do is attach to a specific layer that is used for
nothing else and make sure that layer is always on , thawed and set to plot.

There's no restriction regaurding the layer you can insert an xref on.
If your xref is giving you errors then you need to edit the file you
referenced in, check it for illegal symbol names (rename dialog is good for
this) and audit for corruption. A nice healthy purge would be refreshing,
    too.
