Thanks. Sure sounds like what they told us. Now I am confused about the
instructions from MSoft included below. Does the patch go in before or
after the problem is experienced or can it be either?

Also, it was not clear and I didn't think to ask, but how does this
affect the silent install that SW was pushing for large installations?

    Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only
intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only
apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This
hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not
severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the
next Windows XP service pack that contains this hotfix.

I contacted Microsoft as per Greg Jankowski's email, and received my Hotfix
    this morning.

I'll install and get back to the group later today.

    Very painless, and worked great,
After installing the Hotfix I was able to install the SP01 from SW with no
    probs.

  5. Ok, here's the question. If a user is on WinXp SP1, can SW SP1.0 be
installed with no problems? Is it only after installing XP SP2 that the
    patch needs to be applied?

I am still on XP SP1 and installed SW SP 1.0 with no problem. Istalls
should not be a problem until after you add XP SP2. I don't know when
Windows starts counting the 2 service packs per progam, for example do
they keep a running tab or does the count start after you install XP
    SP2?

I wish I knew if it was okay to install the hotfix before the problem
    exists. Like to be proactive.

    Wayne and KM,

You don't need to do anything to upgrade tp SP01 if your on Wimdows XP SP1,
and as I understand it, the Hotfix does just that, fixes the problem with XP
SP2, so if your running XP SP1 there's no need to fix a problem that doesn'e
exist. Appearantly MS will be releaseing an SP2b (or some such) which will
contain the Hotfix, at sometime in the future.

    Clear as mud?
