Xerox 8830 and Wipeouts

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by Jason Peterson, Oct 28, 2004.

  1. We just made the switch to AutoCAD & ADT 2005. Upon doing so, we are now
experiencing a problem when plotting drawings containing wipeouts to our
production Xerox 8830 plotter. It appears that the wipeout is either
ignored or prints as a screened pattern, depending on the settings. I've
searched for and found several posts concerning this very issue, but have
not found a definitive solution. I've tried using the default Xerox 8830
driver that comes with ADT 2005, as well as the latest 10.0 version posted
    on the Xerox web site.

I don't recall this printing problem with ADT 2004, but we didn't really use
it for production drawings. Just for fun, I went ahead and installed the
AutoCAD 2004 Xerox driver (ver 9.1) to try and rectify the problem, but to
no avail. Being fairly old, our Xerox 8830 uses the F5Y controller board
    with firmware version 4.2.

Anyone else experience this problem, and if so, did you find a solution? Is
anyone using the 10.0 driver on a 10.0 firmware with success?

Wipout is NOT ignores, but there DOES appear as a screened fill - but VERY screend! - There (on close examination) but not objectionable

We have a couple of those 8830 plotters as well as several 510 plotters. I
have seen a very faint dot pattern on the one 8830 plotter that is running
firmware version 9.1. The other 8830 plotters are running firmware 6.0 and
do not see this problem. When we purchased our 510 plotters, we did see the
problem on the first plotter until we installed 10.0 firmware. This fixed
the problem on the 510 plotters. We have the same controller for our 8830s
and the problem is the scanner model we have is not supported by Xerox's
firmware above 9.1 so we are stuck with the dot pattern on the 8830s.

I am in the testing phase of LDT 2005 and found another problem with 2005.
Apparently they changed how textmasks/wipeouts work with the merge control
setting in the PC3 file. If you have it set to line merge, then wipeouts
will not plot at all. If you set it to lines overwrite, then the wipeouts
will plot properly, but then screened lines are plotting on top of solid
    lines.

I have a correction to the previous post. I found through some testing that
the merge control setting doesn't have to be set to line overwrite for
wipeouts to work in 2005. The couple test PCs I have also have a problem
with SP1 for Raster Design so that is why wipeouts/textmasks were not
    plotting properly from 2005.
