Does anybody else have a Xerox 6050?

We just bought one to replace an 8830 and it looks an awful lot like we're
the guinea pig for this thing. I can't imagine another AEC firm getting one
that works like ours and being satisfied. The print quality is great, but
the way it handles media and page sizes is downright bizarre.

As delivered, we needed multiple print queues with different configurations
to get our usual assortment of page sizes. Architectural sizes take one
configuration, ANSI another, and there's a special one for 42"x30" plots.
And a custom size, like 15x21 is just not possible. The 6050 just can't seem
to figure out that if it has 30" media loaded, a 21" wide layout will fit on
it. The latest news is that it's going to take $2-3K in options to get it to
behave somewhat like the 8830 and every other plotter we've ever dealt with.

While I can give you much help on the 6050, while looking for an update for
our Xerox 510, I saw that the latest firmware said it had a fix for your
issue of not recognizing 30" media. You may want to check the firmware you
have loaded to make sure it is current.

Thanks. The Xerox installation tech updated the firmware first thing.
Actually, our machine was held up somewhere prior to delivery while Xerox
scrambled around to fix the 30" media problem. The fix, though, is a kludge,
IMO. They've temporarily loaned us an "AccXES" controller to see if it makes
the 6050 useable. (That's the $2-3K option I mentioned.) Without the
optional controller in place, the 6050 just doesn't behave like any other
plotter any of us have ever dealt with.
