Why doesn't my delete key erase objects anymore???

    Not sure what has changed but all of the sudden I can't use the Del key on
    my keyboard to erase an object anymore. The Del key doesn't seem to do
    anything at all when pressed. I now have to use one of the menu items or
    toolbar erase buttons to erase an object. I suspect a system variable may
    control this but I have been unable to find it. Anyone have a hint?
