Why does the same pc3 for HP755cm plotter look to different Windows Driver Files path?

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by James Maeding, Mar 1, 2005.

  1. I have two users with the same acad setup.
When I plot with my pc3 for the HP755cm plotter (set up from heidi driver hpgdi7.hdi), one user does not get all the
    paper sizes.
I dug into it and looked at the General Tab of the pc3 properties.
Low and behold, the two users had everything the same, except for the items in the Windows Drivers Files field.
    One had
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\2\whatever...
    and one had
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\whatever....

How would I go about changing where a pc3 is getting its windows driver files from?
It seems to be somewhere besides the pc3. The hpgdi7.hdi is exactly the same on both computers so thats not it.

    thanks

  2. That sounds good but the .hdi file is the driver and that is identical both machines. You are talking like the 755 is a
plotter that shows up in my windows printers. It does not. We simply use that driver to make plot files for our Oce.
So since the plotter was never installed locally, there is nothing to reinstall. But somewhere somthing is different,
    cant deny that.

We do have a hp755 as a windows printer on a server, but there is no need to add that as a local printer for pc3's to
work. This is actually a good thing because otherwise I would have to make the 755 as a local plotter.

So if both computers have the same pc3 pointing to the same plotter on the same server, how did things get changed?
This has to be something with windows, not the pc3.

    thanks

I've complained about this years ago.
Basically the PC3 contains the driver path.
This way if you install windows in a different folder or use a different OS then the pc3 file will not work.
I've asked about this before but you cannot edit a pc3.
I remember that there was a autodesk program that would open a pc3 file to show the internals but it
didn't allow you to edit changes.

What you need todo is uninstall the driver, delete the driver files and reinstall. Or just move them from
    folder 3 to folder 2

  4. interesting, I didnt think about deleteing files to see if it puts them back somehow.
I am thinking somehow windows was told that the current spot to look for hpgl is that 3 folder.
If its not there, maybe it will look to the old spot....
    I'll try it. thx

w32x86\2 contains Windows NT4 printer drivers
w32x86\3 contains Windows XP printer drivers
Windows 2000 can handle both drivers. But i don't know how he chooses between the nT4/2000 driver and the 2000/XP driver.
