As standard LT does not include the programming APIs like LISP, ARX, and
VBA. It also does not include 3D creation facilities, VPCLIP, XCLIP, and a
whole lot more useful 2D functionality.

There are programs available to add most of that functionality back in. Take
    a look at www.drcauto.com for:
    * !SlingShot Max -- Adds XCLIP, VPCLIP, layer commands, viewpoint commands,
    text commands, etc
(note: all other software includes !SlingShot Max)
    * SuperTools -- Adds many of the Express Tools
    * LT Toolkit -- Adds LISP
    * LT Toolkit Max -- Adds LISP and ARX
    * LT3D -- Add 3D solid modelling (LT 2000-2 only at this time)
    * AccuRender for LT -- Adds the popular AccuRender rendering to AutoCAD LT

If you want a lot of autocad's features (and the ability to customize and
use dwg files) and are on a budget, take a look at intellicad. It is a
really good alternative and the price is about 1/8th of autocad. There are
a number of intellicad flavours out there, but the one I found that
impressed me most was from bricscad.

  10. You're talking about LT, right? I was asking about the bricscad.

PRO Menu adds many utility functions, expanded right click and osnap menus,
    lots more.

I"m not much of a LISP user but, of the few routines I do use, it works
    great.
BTW, I'm using the CMS version.

Hi Michael, I had a small problem with one routine that used the insert
command, but I was able to work around that - and I have heard this has been
taken care of in the latest version (which I plan on acquiring in the next
couple of weeks). Otherwise it has given me no trouble with what I have
written for it thus far. You can go to their site and down load a 30 day
    trial version.

    Take care,

  14. I did, yesterday ; )
The documentation is a bit sketchy, but I'll try to find some time to give
    it a test drive.
One disappointment already is the rendering capability. I'd like something
to produce "realistic" shadows given time and location. I wonder if the
add-ons to LT can do that.

Yes, LT can do LISP and 3D with the add-ons from drcauto...
no problems... check out their website and download the trial version if you
    like...
drcauto also has an architectural add-on package if your interested.

  16. Will it do "real" shadows, i.e. solar shadows?

that, I do not know... sorry.
but as I said, go to their website and check to see...
it has been a while since I have used LT and the drcauto software, I'm sure
they have improved greatly since then...

I never had any reason to use the rendering in intellicad or, for that
matter, autocad... so I can't give you any info. There are two things to
keep in mind if you are thinking of using one of these applications that
open LT. Autodesk is not impressed with them, and the last information i
got was they are looking into how they can stop them. The other is you will
more likely have to purchase an upgrade for these each time you upgrade LT.
