I suppose they could run Cobalt (Ashlar Vellum) on Macs. Although, I
think much of the design work is done by outside design houses.

I suggest some posters need to move to a Mac where there are reliable
spell checkers built into the OS so you don't have to do those
    extremely complicate Windows add-on installs.

Obviously, I am not on my Mac, as I shorted "complicated".

I was being totally facetious, based on a prior member's misspelling
coupled with his known desire to be The Source.

    I should not use sarcasm.

Pretty good CAD/CAM system is it?
    Full 5 axes CAM?

Nice to see an actual CAD/CAM systems expert posting.

I contracted MCAD work at Apple in '98 and '99. Plastic molded parts
design for most of the "blue stuff", G3 powerbook, and a few more.
Mostly UG, but learned Pro/E on the job.

Industrial design was done in 2D Vellum or 3D Alias. Alias was
imported to UG or Pro/E (depending on what the project was using) and
refined and engineered from there. At the time Alias could only run on
SGI's. CAD was done on HP's.

UG was ideal because it has great ability to manipulate non-featured
geometry. It is also top CAD dog for free form surface modelling
(among programs I have used). Pro/E was also used. I think mostly
because Pro/E is so widely used by Asian vendors (especially Taiwan).
I also believe that there simply aren't enough top-talented users
available for any single CAD program for them to reduce to a single CAD
    program.

If you want in, contracting is the best way to get a foot in the door.
The contract firms with the best avenues in are Surfaceink, Volt, and
Design Visionaries. Surfaceink will screen you most rigorously. If
you qualify, they will probably get you the most money.

I loved the work and miss most of the people. I left California
because I did not want to raise my kids there. Schools are scary
retarded and housing is outrageous. Back to Wisconsin I went. Better
schools, better homes, better fishing. I make half the money and live
    twice as well.
