    Hi all,

Is there a way to pinpoint objects that are invisible in a Block eventhough
their layer is on? (I also cannot find the Block in question.) I used
laydel to delete a layer that looked empty but got this msg:

    " ******** WARNING ********

There are 1 block definition(s) which reference the layer(s) you are
    deleting.
The block(s) will be redefined and the entities referencing the layer(s)
will be removed from the block definition(s).

You are about to permanently delete layer AB from this drawing.
Do you wish to continue? [Yes/No] <No>:y

    Redefining block "AB-hu4i"

    No unreferenced blocks found.
    Deleting layer "AB".
    1 layer deleted. "

    Dean,

I'm not sure I understand. Can you expand on that?

    Hi Gary,

Thanks for the .lsp which I ran using the 'Layer' option and got the msg:

    --------------

Name of LAYER to cross reference: DV

Scanning blocks for references to layer DV.
Layer DV is referenced in definition of block vac-sh4u
    Scanning block: d1000
Done, layer DV is referenced in 1 block definition(s).

    ---------------

I also ran the routine with the 'Block' option for the 2 blocks above and
    got no nested references.

However, what do I do with this info? Layer DV appears to have nothing on
    it...
And how do I visually locate the block or other object that is referenced to
that layer? I can't see anything on layer DV or other mysteriously empty
    layers that won't delete.

I turned off all layers except DV but nothing is visible. I did a layer
walk and nothing. I did a KILLDOTS.lsp to remove junk and still something
    is supposedly on that layer...!?!

Thank-you, Dean, now I understand. That works great!

  5. The DV layer was found in the block named " vac-sh4u". So, WBLOCK
"vac-sh4u". Then, open "vac-sh4u.dwg". Make layer "0" current. PURGE all.
Are you able to purge layer "DV"?

Unfortunately, I can't see the block "vac-sh4u.dwg"... that's part of the
    problem.

I can delete layer "DV" through either express tools laydel or by merging it
    as Dean mentioned.

  7. When you WBLOCK the "vac-sh4u" block and then OPEN the "vac-sh4u.dwg" that
you've just created, do you see anything when you zoom extents?

Another way to see where the "invisible" blocks are inserted in a drawing is
to re-define the block. I would draw a large circle (or any shape) on layer
"0" and then I make a Block with the circle and name it "vac-sh4u".
Wherever this block is inserted, you'll see the re-defined block. Then you
would be able to delete all of the block inserts.

Thanks, Gary, I'll give that a try.
