    Sean,
    Interesting thread;
I've been using Dell 2000FP Ultrasharp (1600x1200) Analogue mode for
a year. Fantastically good- come have a look if you have the time.

Comparing it to Compaq 18" LCD in our office shows up the latter's
shortcomings- mainly the result of 1280x1028 limitations, I think.

So my feeling is to wait for 19" with higher resolution. Why is it
that laptops commonly display 1600x1200 on 15"/16" screens yet
external monitors have to be 20.1" to get this res.? (Chris' SGI
being the exception that proves the rule!)

    GD

PS I'm currently at GRD Minproc, 218 St Geo- call me on 0409496952

  2. Hi,
The reasons are: 1. viewing angle and 2. response times.

If you want to keep wide viewing angle the liquid crystals must be twisted
differently and this puts constraints on a size of a pixel.

I have found the ultra-high-resolution notebook screens being relatively
    slow responsewise.
Yes, but what was the cost? Non-standard digital interface, and outrageous
price. But when introduced, Sgi 1600SW was voted the Best of Comdex anyway...

    Cheers!
    /Chris Z.

Smooth shaded views on 1600x1200 X 15" screens are fantastic!

Fun to pan and rotate in real time plus the printouts are absolutely beautiful!

That colorwheel that AC copied comes in handy.
