Want new sheets to follow BOM

I have an assembly on sheet 1 and the details on several following
sheets..some shown as sub-assemblies (even though they are individually
balloned in the assembly). I would like to have the balloons on the new
sheets follow the assembly BOM balloon numbers. How is that done?
I have tried inserting the assembly view, locking focus, ballooning and then
hiding the view but the balloons hide too.
Also, can text be linked to a BOM item#? Next to the details I want to
include a block that shows the item #, material, and finish note.

make a derived configuration, hide the parts/assy's you don't want visible

you can add columns to the bom that link to the part/assy properties

  4. If the VAR you are dealing with is any good, they can walk you through
making the BOM work the way you want. If they can't do it, then try to find
    another VAR.

A good VAR will also show you how it can be done in SW2004, as it is going
to be completely different (BOMs are no longer Excel based).
