Recently the command string: " -vports", "L", "off" command won't turn off
    viewport locking.
Any clues as to why this has occured, and how to fix it?

    Thanks

    (using ADT 3.0)

that seems to lead me to the same place as "-vports".
Also trying to unlock using "mview" no longer unlocks the viewport.
    hmmm.

(work-around: deleting locked viewport and redrawing it. not good)

    Is the viewport layer locked??

Yes. The file contains the model drawing and about 5 paper-space layouts.
Each layout contains a title block and one viewport. I've locked each
viewport, but now have to unlock them to adjust the sheet layouts.....but
    they refuse to unlock.
(I've been using this method for ages, and it's always worked great. Until
    now.)

"Yes."? Then unlock it. What O-C is telling you is that if the layer in
which the viewport (i.e., the border) resides is locked, then you can't
unlock the viewport until you first unlock its layer.

oh, the LAYER. I misread O-C's message. sorry.

No, the layer is not locked, just the viewport.

i think you are at the point where a posted drawing would be helpful

    got it!
I was cleaning up the drawing to send it over, and realized that I somehow
had an extra viewport stacked directly over the other. Don't know how I did
that. embarassing. Anyway, I thought I was clicking on the viewport
showing the model drawing, but was actually selecting the extra (upper) one.
Any AutoCad add-ons out there that cause it to show more clearly when lines
    are stacked up?

    Thanks for all the help.
