unwanted and unsollicited layer filters

In many of our files appear layer filters without being created . These
layer filters appear with names in all languages (german, italian, french,
english, and lately portuguese) and can reach a very high number (fifty or
sixty, perhaps more), making it difficult to manage layers.

In our practice we make extensive use of xrefs and design manager and share
    few files outside of studio.

Has anyone had a similar problem? What can be its cause? and is there a
way of eliminating all custom layer filters at once or has one to eliminate
them one by one (very long procedure in files with many layers!)

    I appreciate any help, thx!

  2. Its an AutoCAD bug / feature. Like you I spent a long time trying to work
out where all the filters came from.
If you copy & paste anything from another drawing, then all the filters in
that other drawing will be copied across to your drawing.
AutoCAD 2004 fixes the problem. Other than this I don't know of an easy fix.
