unable to stack alternate dimensions in ACAD 2005

    I'm having problems with 2005 not wanting to put my alternate units
    under my dimension lines. I'm using "\X" for the suffix of the
    primary dimension and it still places both dimensions above line
    (stacked). Before you ask... yes they are "home". Sometimes, it
    won't even allow me to put the "\X" in the suffix field. Any help
    would be appriciated.
