Trying to copy viewports and save layer states

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by Daniel J. Ellis, Mar 3, 2004.

  1. Hey guys wonder if you can help,

I'm working on a set of drawings for a housetype that includes a number
alternative elevational treatments on a single model-space ele.

In my viewports I have various layers set as "freeze in this viewport"
to allow me to select the elevation I want. I now need to copy these
viewports onto a separate viewport to c reate some planning drawings.

When I do this, most, not all, of the layers become un-frozen.
Obviously this situation leaves me having to repeat work. I'm sure that
there is a way round this - does anybody know it?

    Thanks in advance,
    DJ

  2. If the problem is what i Think it is. Its just a variable (Visretain)

    Retain Changes to Xref Layers

Saves changes to layer properties and states for xref-dependent layers. When
the drawing is reloaded, the properties currently assigned to xref-dependent
layers are retained. This setting is saved in the drawing. ( VISRETAIN
    system variable) .

    VISRETAIN System Variable

    Type: Integer
    Saved in: Drawing
    Initial value: 1

Controls the visibility, color, linetype, lineweight, and plot styles (if
PSTYLEPOLICY is set to 0) of xref-dependent layers.

0 The layer table, as stored in the reference drawing (xref) takes
precedence. Changes made to xref-dependent layers in the current drawing are
valid in the current session only and are not saved with the drawing. When
the current drawing is reopened, the layer table is reloaded from the
reference drawing and the current drawing reflects those settings. The layer
settings affected are On, Off, Freeze, Thaw, Color, Ltype, LWeight, and
PStyle (if PSTYLEPOLICY is set to 0).

1 Xref-dependent layer changes made in the current drawing take precedence.
Layer settings are saved with the current drawing's layer table and persist
    from session to session.

  3. That didn't work. I'm not dealing with xref-dependant layers, just with
    viewports.

    Thanks for trying, though.
