    Hi guys,

Something about the newer versions of autocad that is really staring to
annoy me is when using the trim and extend command it allows me to select
xref lines and block lines as the cut line, even if the block or xref is on
a locked layer. Is there a system variable to stop this from happening? I
use xrefs alot when drawing elevations, I use them as a backdrop for the
surveyors points then i just use those points for reference and draw in the
detail over them, when trimming and extending i used to just box over what i
wanted and it wouldnt select the xref line (this was in r14) I hope i can
    switch it off.

Thanks for any help, its apprectiated :)

  2. Do you know about the difference between a window and a crossing?
Depending on the size of the XREF, drawing your window from left to right
    might not select the XREF.

the lines are usually too long for me to window select them so i have to
    cross them.

  4. What about removing objects before the end of the selection process?

that is what i want to avoid, i never had to do this in r14 and i wanted to
know whether this is a system variable that i can change or if its
permanent. i do alot of detailed elevations and removing the xref lines
everytime i extend or trim is time consuming and very annoying ESPECIALLY as
its on a locked layer, it shouldnt do this, i cant move it, copy it or
stretch it why the hell can i select it for a cut line?

  6. Oh. I think I know your problem now. It used to be that you needed
a special lisp or bonus tool to use an entity in a block to trim.
If you picked with a crossing, the invalid items were ignored. Now
it sounds like the 'advanced' function is the standard, with negative
    consequences for you.

I'd check the help. If it's a real problem you could easily devise a lisp
that would ignore 'complex' items, and then call the trim command.
