Transparency in drawing

Discussion in 'SolidWorks' started by Wayne Tiffany, Mar 8, 2006.

  1. I have an assy model that has one of the parts (guard) somewhat transparent.
But when I bring that model into a drawing, the transparency disappears and
the guard blocks what's underneath it. Is there a way to make it work?

You will have to show the view in shaded mode for the transparency to
    work

  3. Hmmm, I was hoping for a solution that allowed the view to be hidden lines
    removed.

  4. I've used Alternate Position Views for this before, but, since I've
slept since the last time I used it, my memory (a well as many body
parts) has "gone south" since then. But it had to do something with
making two configurations, one with, and one without the part you want
to "see thru." Then you make an Alternate Position view, one with the
first config, the other with the second....

    ....or something like that.....

  5. Interesting thought, but sounds a bit cumbersome. Might be time for an
    enhancement request??

  6. Yup. An easier way would be nice. I was hoping the functionality would
be available when 2006 came out with Display states, but sadly.....

I agree, display states should have dealt with issues like this.

Display states did deal with this issue although half assed. You can use
display states for alternate position views, but it takes twice as much
work as it used to. You have to create the display state, then you have
to create a separate configuration. Create the alt pos view using the
new configuration. Change the property of alt pos view to the config
that has your display state in it. Then change the property of the alt
pos view AGAIN to the right display state. There needs to be a way to
create alt pos views using the config AND the display state in one step.

Can you just hide the (guard) component in that view? Often times I do
that and just add a note "Guard part hidden in this view for clarity"
    or something like that?

Or turn it into a reference part, therefore allowing parts behind it to show
    as normal.

  11. Hiding is an option, although not the desired one.

What are you thinking of as far as making it a reference part? Explain
    more, please.
