Transfer user preferences?

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by Robert Stewart, Sep 28, 2005.

  1. Upgrading from AutoCAD 2004 Mechanical to 2005 Mechanical Desktop and I am
wondering if there are some files that I can transfer to maintain my user
preferences, toolbar layouts, etc. How about custom toolbars and toolbar
buttons? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank,
    Rob

Have you installed 2005 yet? I thought there was a "Migration Wizard" of
some sort that ran the first time you execute the program. It should
recognize your 2004 install and offer to migrate your settings.

    If not....
I'm not entirely familier with MD, but you should be able to export your
profile. This will pick up things like paths, colors, etc.

Toolbars are contained in menu files. If you have added your own
toolbars, you will have to know which menu they were added to.

In the future, you might consider creating a "robert.mnu" as a container
for your custom menus and toolbars. Then the next time you upgrade,
there is no guessing where all this is kept, and never alter any files
that come with AutoCAD. This way, upgrades and service packs will not
    alter your changes.

  3. Thanks for the reply. I have already installed AutoCAD 2005 and tried the
migration wizard, which made a mess of everything. I did some research on
AutoDesk's site and found that custom toolbars and menus can cause a lot of
problems. I reinstalled and set everything up manually. Thanks again, Rob.
