I understand that VX are holding back on VX 11 because it breaks up and
falls over even though there is not much difference to the the previous
version. It is loosing seats pretty strongly lately and they are scared
to make another mistake bacause it will make a pattern out of their
    reputation.

    Congrats Jon

Think3 has just about ZERO marketshare worldwide. They have no more US
support ( I think they were laid off 2 yrs ago?).... Only thing bringing in
any income in is the existing old Eureka base on maintance. Mainly in
Itally. It is keeping them afloat. New cusotmers are not even looking at
Think3. Sorry that is just reality.

VX.... I am sure its a decent product. Its just that nobody seems to be
evaluating, purchacing, or using it.. There is just not a big market for
what they are offering... So why does this matter? They cannot re-invest,
hire, and grow. The development process is staffled and on life support.
Cusotmers users products will wait long and hard for improvements, bug fixes
    and new enhacements...

Thankfully SW does not takes its business direction from you Jon.

I think FOX news has an opening. They seem to be more than willing to hire
people who talk about issues, without worrring about accuracy, context or
    truth.

I appreciate your response, but "it's your fault" doesn't cut it.
    1. I have not opted out of emails from solidworks (I get lots of mail
    from them).
    2. My browser pastes in the email address the same as it has
    successfully hundreds of times.
    3. I do not have spam filtering enabled at all.
    4. I have participated in other solidworks web events.

There are many, many of us that wanted to attend and participate. Many
of us, including me, delayed customer meetings (read billable hours) in
    order to attend this meeting.

The response that I have received from Solidworks by email is that I can
listen to the archive of it and there is no current plans to re-run it.
They couched that with ...maybe in the fall.

I think Solidworks should admit they dropped this one and reschedule
another one soon and try to get it right this time.

    Joe,

I agree with the others. I haven't opted out or spam filtered the SW
messages. This was something I was looking forward to. I don't think
that it's just a coincidence that so many of us made the same mistakes.

Many of the ISPs are filtering anyway.
It's getting to be a real pain.

Some of the ISPs are blocking based on the IP address sent from, on
the number in the TO or CC list, on the ISP sent from, on assorted
anti-SPAM lists, on word content ... Usenet still sems to work much
of the time though (some newsservers also kill what they *think*
is SPAM so not even that is safe).

Many of the ISPs jusg blackhole (==> /dev/null) what they
have blocked and don't even bother to bounce it (most SPAM
    had forged FROM fields anyway).

Check with your ISP by phone .... don't jump to conclusions
    & blame SW.

I run my own mail server. I know for a fact what is and isn't being

    Whoa, Joe, you're back!

I didn't sign up so I can be impartial here not having a stake one way
    or another.

    1. Given the rate of failure of the email getting through either they
weren't sent or some of the automation you have croaked on real world
    data and disregarded customer requests.

    2. The reply email had HTML or something else that would get caught in
a spam filter at the ISP. Some user's say they didn't have spam filters
on but that doesn't cut it because ISPs and other points on the way
from SW to the user can be involved. I don't understand why SW can't
send such mundane responses in simple 8bit ASCII text.

    3. Close the loop and have some kind of response to confirm that the
user got the email. Return receipts come to mind.

    4. Those that called back to SW looking for help got phone mail Mary
treatment. VAR's couldn't help because they weren't in the loop. The
only successful workarounds seemed to come from the newgroup. No big
    surprise there.

Well, have a good Fourth of July. Many of us will be thrashing away at
    SW2004 during that time.

But as *per usual* you then keep going. LOL
I don't but I like the direction PTC is going in. I especially like
that Joe Dunne of SolidWorks Corp. wrote PTC and Pro/E off for dead
with what he had to say to UpfronteZine awhile back.

PTC / ProE is is anything but dead. :>)

My hope is that the release of Wildfire 3 causes SaladWorks users to
start switching to a much better, much more complete solution.

Here is a clue, Joe....you have at least 5 people active in
comp.cad.soldworks and in alt.machines.cnc that have purchased VX
recently. FACTS are not something you seem like.

As far as think3's marketing is concerned, I have made my position very
clear... I don't like it... so I feel no need to defend what I have
clearly said I don't like. However, the FACT is that think3 employs
someone who is light years ahead of say Chris Garcia. Chris Garcia is
what your 3rd or 4th head of R&D for SaladWorks in ten years ? Is it
any wonder SaladWorks is such a confused fucked up mess ? The only
thing consistent is SaladWorks Corp. moronic decision to focus squarely
on what Autodesk is doing and copy it.... PTC is going to eat your
lunch with this idiotic strategy. Joe please tell both newsgoups how
*anyone* SaladWorks Corp. now employs can hold their own with this
    person:

    http://www.think3.com/en/about_us/leadership.asp

"Alain Massabo, Vice President of Advanced Research and Development
A world-renowned scientist in the realm of complex design technology,
Alain Massabo brings nearly 30 years of technology and scientific
research to think3. Having led the introduction of think3's
breakthrough Global Shape Modeling technology, he is currently in
charge of research and development for think3's industrial design
    application."
Sorry Joe, I don't watch Fox news and can't relate... did Fox news
start attacking Scientology or something and your pissed off ?

Seems like we have a new trend... VX, CNC Software (MasterCAM), etc. by
CAD/CAM software companies who are no longer willing to push releases
out the door way before their ready.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

    What took so long ?

In the mean time, I hear PTC is going to start giving CAM away to
entice new Pro/E prospects. SaladWorks Corp. can't do this as they were
/ are too focused on Autodesk and too stupid to release how important
    CAM / manufacturing customers are.

Thanks for showing this newsgroup yet again who it is that really
    "breaks up and falls over".

As has been previously pointed out by several others you understand
very little. Since they did such a good job and showed you to be a
complete idiot I don't feel the need to expand on this theme any
    further. :>)

I do have a few questions for you though:

How did your private list serve or whatever you claimed was the
direction you and everyone else was headed in work out ? LOL

Was it too boring there without what you claimed was a newsgroup filled
    with "VX sock puppets" ?

    :>)

    Joe,

Is that why we are still using 2004 in production? We have 2005 and
2006PreRelease but until SW stops stifling performance......

    I implement software like I buy 2x4s. If I see a supposedly 10ft long
2x4 in the rack and my tape measure says it is only 9ft 6in it doesn't
go on the cart. I have to be able to measure the performance. I don't
just go by what is printed on the rack; I use my own tape measure, not
    the store's. And I won't complain if it is 10ft 6in either.
