Time and billing in V8

Discussion in 'Microstation' started by Allan nichols, Nov 21, 2003.

  1. We would like to upgrade all our seats to V8 but I'm having a terrible
time in finding Time and Billing software that will keep track and
record the Project, ID and time spent in individual files. What is
really difficult is finding something that will work as we ref in and
out using Axiom's Refwriter. The software must be compatable with
refwriter and keep track of all files that we are refing in.

What we are using now does this but only up to V7. Any ideas?

    Alan,

You are pointing to a huge missing in all of the computer world.

Time management should be included in the MicroStation suite.
Should have been included in Office.

The computer world seems to have a blind eye to
    Time/Calendar/timesheet functions relating to projects.

The missing is cataclysmically stupid and should have been so easy to
    do.

It should be very easy. My only doubt is to how accurate it is. Obviously
the time spent in the file, will be incredibly accurate. I would imagine it
would also be easy to extract the time whilst modifications are taking
place. But how to tell whether that is time that is necessary to think about
the work being done, or down the pub is a little trickier.

  4. You are correct when you say that it should be easy to track time in a
file and while making modifications. Actually, accuracy is not that
big of a deal as the system we currently use on V7 works fine with a
five minute "time out". If the puck is not moving for more than five,
the timing software automaticaly cuts out. The problem that we have
now is finding the same type of software that is compatable with
Axiom's ref writer. It's fine on V7 but will not keep track of time
in "ref'd" files. Axiom says they don't plan on fixing the problem.
Would be nice to be able to bill clients for time at the time however.

  5. Allan,

We could probably modify our TimeTracker software for V8 for RefWriter
support for a very low cost. We'd need to know the distinction of what is
    unique requirement about RefWriter.
