The installation progress doesn't show any errors, but when I try to start
autocad, 8 times out of 10 it automatically aborts the startup process and
it shows :"FATAL ERROR:unhandled access violation exeption at ...."
    do I need a patch........or a new autocad release? :(

    Thanks
    Niko

Probably neither. But without more information (like OS, RAM, background
apps, etc.) it's hard to say.

My wild guess is WinXP installed in the new computer (actually there are not
so many alternative Windows versions available today). Changing Acad.exe's
compatilibity mode to ie. Win98 in the properties could make it run happily.

    Merry christmas to all!

  4. I heard off old applications which don't like the Hyper Threading
mechanism of current P4 CPUs and thus don't launch..

... thus you might give switching off the HT in the systems BIOS a try.

    just a guess

    REPOST FOR MGS
    ........................................................
    Sorry folks,
I am unable to post it directly into the a.m. thread.
May be somebody can copy into it.

When you are using 2000 or XP -> look in the system variables you can
find the number of processors. It is 2!!!?
R14 mtext command has a problem with more than one processor. This
patch will turn off the autoload of mtext on startup.
Autocad will load the command when it is needed, so no probs.
Apply the patch and the good old R14 will work even better and more
    stable than before (tested on 9pcs. P4 2,4-2,8 Win2k).
