The AS 9 learning curve

I have AutoSketch Release 2, which I used years ago with Windows 3.1. I
really liked the interface, and the functionality seemed adequate for
everything I wanted to do. Not surprisingly, while R2 will load and
run under Windows 98, 2K and XP, it doesn't work properly (at least not
on my systems). I am thinking of replacing it with AS 9.

Can anyone comment on how the AS 9 interface compares with R2 for
convenience and usability? How steep would the learning curve be to go
    from R2 to AS 9?

Is there significant added functionality in AS 9, compared to the
orginal AS R2? Are there better solutions out there now for a low cost
drawing program that will handle accurate, dimensioned, 2D drawings?

    Thanks for any comments.
