System Options Settings

Discussion in 'SolidWorks' started by Richard Charney, Jul 22, 2004.

  1. Does anybody know if it's possible to copy the Solidworks System Options
Settings from the registry on one machine and copy them into the registry of
another machine? So I don't have to go through the painful task of trying to
get everything set the same on the two machines manually.

  2. Sure, you can either export the registry key and use that, or you can use
the Wizard. To do the latter, go to Start/Programs and find your SW stuff.
Follow it to Copy Options Wizard.

There is a copy options wizard, usable only by Administrators found in the
    SW Start/Program menu.

Be a little careful after doing this. Things like the file locations
settings will be copied. If they refer to special directories on the source
machine (not the SW install directories) chances are they won't work very
    well on the target machine.

However, the operative word is "everything".

Copy options will get the registry related stuff.

Then copy the .cus file from the Users folder in your SW installation and
put it in a user's folder on a new installation with the users name in
front of .cus. That will get custom key mappings and few other things.

But that isn't all. Things like toolbar positions and Custom Macro Icons
have to be redone by hand after the installation.

No matter what you do, there is now way I know to copy "everything".
