greetings all! good ol' bob z. has been on a whirlwind tour of
employed and unemployed. times have been both good and bad.

bob z. comes to the group with hat in hand and in need of some expert
advice. see link below for examples of the issue:

    http://picasaweb.google.com/bobzee1/SwxVideoIssues?feat=directlink

bob z. will try to describe what is happening. quite often the screen
doesn't fully refresh. a portion will behave normally (the small
portion shown in the pictures), while the rest is just a static
picture. the portion of the screen/video that behaves properly is
always where a dialog box or another program window was just active.
bob z. hopes this is not too confusing. this problem is EXTREMELY
random and usually only appears when bob z. is zoomed in and trying to
mate one detail to another and the only way to get the screen to fully
refresh is to do any one of many things (click on empty space,
minimize swx and maximize, switch to another program and switch back,
etc) and these don't always work right away. the glitch will stay for
anywhere between half a second to minutes if you let it.

    system specs:
    dell precision T3400
    intel core 2 duo E8500 3.16GHz
8.00 GB of ram. yeah, you read that right. 8 GIGA Bytes. bill gates
made it so let it be written, so let it be done. :~)>
    vista sp1 64-bit
    quadro FX3700
    microsoft trackball explorer
    spaceball
    etc

bob z. has tried several video drivers. the dell supplied, the swx
certified, a couple different nvidia drivers -direct from nvidia.com
(using the latest currently). every driver resulted in the very same
performance and issues. bob z. changed the performance settings of
    windows from full-bore make-it-pretty to please-help-me-i-love-
windows-2000. bob z. changed the nvidia display adapter settings from
wildly one direction to fully the other and most places in between.
the specific swx settings in the driver control panel still had zero
net effect on this little 'glitch'.

this computer is fast. bob z. really likes it. everything is
instantly responsive except for when using a program and then
switching back to swx. swx seems to be just a tad slow at becoming
responsive. this is only when it is first clicked - it is blazing
fast after the first click (this is not starting it from scratch -
this when it is already open and you have to check your email or surf
slashdot for a minute and then come back to your design).

anybody have any ideas? this is getting to a be a little tiresome for
good ol' bob z. he, of course, did many google searches and found
only one instance of someone with the same behavior and they were told
to do everything that bob z. has already done PLUS re-seat the video
card. bob z. isn't sure if he is ready to move up to physical surgery
on this here box. it is so new and so fresh and so clean and so
awesome and it smells so good. it reminds good ol' bob z. of a brand-
new car. you don't pull the valve covers off of a brand-new car
engine just to look at the rockers, do you?

    bob z.
    :~)>

p.s. vista is flakey. sure it works, but boy, is it flakey...

    Bob Z,

If you have disabled the Windows Aero UI, try enabling it. This has
been noted by SolidWorks to be a common link in Vista systems
experiencing this problem. You can find that tidbit of info on the
    SolidWorks forums.

    Cheers,

    Anna

    Hi Bob,

I've seen this same behaviour on both a quadro 3700 and an older
quadro fx1500. Both running vista64. I also note that I have never
disabled Aero on these systems. Unfortunately I don't have a solution
    to offer.

    Ps. Hi Anna!

Just t add that I have exactly the same problem. System is even
stronger - same video but i7920 CPU with 12Gb of RAM - aero enabled
and the leftovers on the drop menus are happening only on SW. On top
of that SW freezes always when starting for the first time after the
log in. I have to restart it and then in runs fine (with screen
artifacts). My KVM switch cannot refresh the mouse after SW as a
consequence of this. The only solution I found is logging out and back
    in.

For your SW freeze on first open go to Start > Control Panel > Ease
of Access Center > Make keyboard easier to use > and check the box by
Underline keyboard shortcuts and access keys.

Toggleing this on should solve that issue for you.

    Cheers,

Thanks Anna - I will try and post the results. I also asked the same
question on SW Customer portal forum.

Just t add that I have exactly the same problem. System is even
For your other issue you might try running without the KVM set-up for
a while with Vista Aero enabled to see the video issues go away.

    Cheers,
