SW item balloons

When adding stacked balloons SW gives you some options for the balloon
text. SW also has the option to change the stacked balloon text to an
item number that would correspond to an item in the BOM. You are given
a drop down list that contains the item numbers of all the items in the
BOM.

When I go to change the item number on the drop down list nothing
happens. Has anyone else experienced this?

My guess is that you have the BOM set to follow the assy order, and
therefore are not allowed to change the item numbers. While I agree that
it's operating properly in not allowing the change, I think there should be
some kind of error message that tells you why the change is not allowed.
