After moving up from acadlt98 to 2002 I lost the ability to select an object first(with a crossing window), then use the stretch command. When I try this in acad2002 the following is displayed on the command line: "you must select a crossing-window or -polygon to stretch". The ability to select objects first is a time saver for me.

    Thanks,

Yup...Mine works the same as yours PF. Typically when Autocad is installed
it uses default settings which are apparently different from version to
    version.

(Has it? .. not as I use it!)
The endpoint(s) must be included in the selection set - and that's after the
command is issued. (at least as I've Always done it).

I must concur - there are other ways.. .and your settings will affect that.
Stretch is one of several commands having been altered recently.

For another, Trim/Extend are now Combined....
(issue one of these... select trim/extend boundaries and use the Shift key
while selecting objects... the Opposite command is run)

I'm not sure if it gets modified with an Upgrade... or if there is a default
that differs from what I have, and I adjusted it... or what.
Each user is 'on his own' in Autodesk's eyes, I guess.

Try resetting the "profile" at your own risk.

You will find out what the default is, but be warned make sure you export
your profiles or you won't be able to restore them.

I have always found the profile options "non-intuitive", but then I probably
don't understand what the programmer had in mind. I printed an Autodesk
Profile Management document which I now use as reference. Its handy to know
how to use the profile feature correctly rather than how I thought it
    worked.

I lost all my settings a few days ago because I didn't save a good profile.
I'm not sure what changed, but it took awhile to get everything back teh way
    I like it.

I can't seem to save 2 lines of text showing in the command line. Someday
I'll spend a few hours trying to learn how to do that. :)
