Standard hpgl/2

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by Pieter Souvereyns, Jan 16, 2004.

  1. Is there a way to create plotfiles in plain hpgl/2?
    We have hp designjet1055 plotters
the firm that print our plots (copies) has oce hardware.
Each time something changes at their site or our site, something won't work.

We wan't to create 1 plotfile to use intern (HP) as extern (OCE), so you can
check the plotfiles that go extern.

  2. Like Dean said; take AutoCAD's own (HDI) driver for the DesignJet 750C/750C
plus. It produces plain and simple HPGL/2. You could also use the HDI driver
for the Oce plotter, this also produces plain and simple HPGL/2 (uncheck the
RCF header option in the driver, though it won't hurt if you leave it on as
the DesignJet ignores it). There may be a difference in resolution
(depending on the Oce model); you will mainly notice this if your dwg's
    contain images.

  3. If the firm that does your plots has Repro Desk, then you should use the VIC
driver (for R14) or the LDF driver (AutoCAD 2000 ... 2004). This is exactly
what the LDF driver is intended for - a device independent way to create a
plot-ready file. You can use the LDF viewer to make sure the plot is exactly
what you want. You then send it to the people who have the Océ device and
they use Repro Desk to print it. It comes out as What You See Is What You
Print. You can get the LDF driver from www.oceplancenter.com. It is free.

Last but not least, you can tell your reprographics companys that they
should use a professional plot tool, as many reprographics companys does....
In Switzerland more then 70% of reprographics companys that make CAD
    plotting use this tool.

If you own a designjet plotter (expect :DJ500), 99.9% of the files you
create can be plotted to a oce device without any need to use a VIC or LDF
    driver............

  5. Works this also with color hpgl/2 files?

  6. Actually you would need to use color HPGL for that. Repro Desk can handle
the color HPGL using its HPGL pass through feature. Sorry, I should have
noted the black and white limitation. We use so much black and white over
    here, I forget about color.
