Splitting/unfolding a tube

Discussion in 'SolidWorks' started by Brian K. Michalk, Nov 15, 2003.

  1. I am trying to make a cut line pattern for some stainless steel
    tubing.

I probably should have started out with sheet metal folded into a
circle, but instead I extruded my tubes, then cut-swept one from the
other. It worked great, except now I want to slice down one side of a
tube, then flatten it out. I hope to print it out, or at least get
measurements that I can transfer to the actual tube for my cut line.

    Any suggestions?

yup well do your slice and pick an outer straight edge and hit the insert
bend icon to create a sheetmetal part, flatten and there it is in all its
    squashed glory.
make a drawing using named view - pick flat pattern from the list

Make sure you do a "cut revolve" this will ensure your sucess in unfolding
    this

  4. Amazing. Works just like you said.

Wish I had used something like this years ago.
