I have a question for those of you that might have done this before.

I have been asked to go through the two floors of our building / manu area
and allocate every square foot to one of 12 different departments. My main
question is which group(s) would 'own' the hallways, break room, restrooms,
etc? Any areas that are not obviously for one group or the other, do those
    go in the facilities department?

Any other helpful hints you might have, please offer those as well.

    Thanks,

    This was my former job?
It's almost a general rule that bathrooms, closets, hallways, stairwells, lobby's, breakroom i.e. any public occupied area would be categorized in facility management/department.

They are typically deemed "floor common" and they "roll up" in the final
tabulation to "building common." They can then be charged to the property
department or they can be prorated back to the lessee (or department) based
    on their individual square footages.

Google for BOMA/ANSI Z65.1-1996 (Standard Method for Measuring Floor Area in
Office Buildings used by building owners) and ASTM/IFMA E1836-01 (Standard
Classification for Building Floor Area Measurements) used more often for
    internal charge-backs.
