Just a heads up. Don't use start parts with 2.1. The old problem of mates
breaking when you edit the part size has come up again.

Create a part using start parts, mate it, double click on it to change size,
and all mates to the part go break.

I lost a weeks worth of work in sp0 due to this. Took a long time to figure
out what the hell was going on.

SW REALLY needs to focus on bugs and performance and quit dorking around
with glitz. This is really pissing me off. It's just getting out of hand.
Don't think we can afford the risk much more. SW2005 not looking good for
us at this point. I'm getting a attitude problem

    PS, windows installer SUCKs!!!

  2. Fred,
Can you explain the procedure to make this work (er..break). I tried a
    simple test. I created a cube 2 x 2 x 2 and saved it as a part template. I
started a new part using the template, added it to an assembly, added
another part, mated it up, and then did as you suggest. I double-clicked the
part and changed some dimensions and all of my mates stayed intact. Did I do
something wrong? Miss a step? Totally misunderstand?

Your doing just what I did Richard. Had this happen on four parts this
morning. Not sure whats going on here, but I'm not going to take the risk
    of using start parts anymore.

The only thing that comes to mind is my start parts were created in SP 1.0.
Sorry, I don't have time to dig into it much more... Got to get work out
    today.

I tried a similar test. Same result. It worked, or "it didn't break".

Please forgive a dumb question (if it IS dumb) from someone who has held
back on installing SW2004. What the heck is "start parts"? I've been
using since 97+ and I've never seen any part creation method described
    so.

  7. Sporky,
He's talking about a part template with some geometry already added.

Thanks for the clarification. Well then, it'd be easy enough for ME to
work around. I don't do that.
