Normally I utilize this users group to post messages about local SW
users group meetings. Now I would like to ask your help. In the past
6 days, David and I have received over 20 negative SolidWorks book
reviews and personal attacks on Amazon.com. I would appreciate any
information as to the source of these assults. Sincerely, Marie

Ask yourself who besides a competitor to your books would
    care ?

Don't worry you have got a long way to go before you piss
off enough assholes like I have to get a website dedicated
    to slandering you. :>)

    http://www.geocities.com/banquercadcam/

It should be obvious to anyone who has a clue that your
books are far and away the best available for SolidWorks.
Back when I was teaching SolidWorks I wished I had the
option to use your books. I think we used Roy Waysak's (sp?)
    book.

If SolidWorks ever gets the surfacing straightened out and
the ability to work on non-native imported surface geometry
I would use your books in a freaking heartbeat if I choose to
    teach SolidWorks again.

In the mean time I would pressure Amazon to look at the IP
addresses of the over 20 negative comments posted about your
    books.

Maybe you could put up a post at Amazon asking potential
purchasers of you book to read the comments in this
newsgroup about them ? The put up a post every week with
comments filled with praise for your books.

Fight back and don't take any shit.

    Dear Marie,
I apologize for Newsgroup on the way Cliff and John are acting on your
post. As for why you posted i would say looking at the dates are almost on
the same day that they are probably a disgruntled individual.

    Jon,

While I would probably be a bit upset at first if someone made a website
such as that one about me, I'd probably laugh after thinking about it. You
really need to find the humor in it. I have learned in my limited number of
years that there's three types of people: the asshole (that pokes fun), the
butt of the joke (that gets pissed) and the guy who laughs back (usually
with a cunning comeback). You just have to learn to laugh along and throw
back a few punches, or slanderous websites if need be. Personally, I found
it humorous and oddly enough would like to congratulate BanquerCADCAM on
making the sketcher in your 1.0 Beta demo much better than what is currently
available in SolidWorks 2004. Maybe SolidWorks will open their eyes to this
and adopt the same sketching performance and stability.

    LOL

Sounds like a student that got a bad grade and needed to blame it on
someone. I'm sorry something like that happened to you. I recommend
your book regularly to people who ask, and find it much more practical
    than other available SW books.

I hope this gets cleared up,

  7. Agreed. The book has only three reviews, all positive. 5 star book with no
negative feedback. Amazon must have fixed things.

    Rocko,

When a new SolidWorks user asks me where to go for help, first I point
them to the online tutorials and then I give out the
comp.cad.solidworks address. Sometimes you have to edit out a few
    comments. Marie

Thank you all for your support, Amazon has removed the negative
comments and they have slowed down. I know I can always improve the
books, for six years I have been trying. Sometimes it is hard to
determine what the SW user wants or the SW teacher requires. Thanks
to so many of you that have helped me over the years, I keep working
to improve that SW experience for the design student. Funny thing -
I would of thought it was a former student too because of the poor
language on the earlier reviews, except the earlier comments only
targeted David - someone else's voice is on the CD's - there were too
many autocad based references and we haven't taught autocad in years.
I believe the person never even had the text - or perhaps one that was
    3 years old.

One thing this users group has done, now that someone is looking, is
to stop the problem. For that I am truly greatful. Sincerely,
    Marie

Just a thought for a hot selling item here.

As you know, the SW training material is primarily process oriented. It is a
pain in the tush to go back and look up how to information in these books
after training is over. In addition there is a great deal of information
strewn throughout the knowledgebase, usenet, maillists and the help.
Perhaps a SW User Guide could be produced to remedy this situation and sold
at a reasonable price point of $20 to $30.

The reason for the how-to approach is simple. While the process oriented
stuff may be a good way to walk a newbie through the steps the first time
when this person goes to work and tries to use SW the questions are going
    to be how-to questions.

Or it could be a competitor. Having taugh as an adjunct prof I have found
students will generally fault the prof before the book. In fact I can't
think of a book related negative comment from any of my students unless I
first pointed out that, perhaps an example in the book is incorrect.
Students tend to take books as gospel. Profs tend to be much more critical.
