    Hi,

Can someone tell me if it is possible to open a part (or assembly) in SW2004
(stad version) that has been created in SW educational version (2004-2005)
    or vice-versa? Thanks.

yes, I can tell you, but you won't like the answer

No, it's not possible. They've intentionally munged up the data format to
prevent moving from one to the other--it keeps the educational version from
    cannibalizing their sales

Have you verified this?... Are you sure that you are thinking of the PE
edition of solidworks? PE edition files will not open in the commercial
edition but you can open commercial files in the PE. According to my
knowledge Education files should open commercial & commercial can open
education. What happens is that any commercial file that is opened & saved
in education will forever receive a watermark on it when printed "for
education purposes only". As far as I know there is no conversion program
to convert education files into commercial files (thus removing the
watermark). However there is a conversion program that will convert PE
files into commercial files -- to get this program you have to purchase
solidworks & request the special conversion program.

Please let me know if you have verified this Education issue first hand
    recently.

    Thanks
