Couple questions regarding the SolidWorks API:

Any guesses regarding how many customers (%) automate something
    through the API?

What are the biggest issues / barriers customers don’t use it more?

    thanks in advance.

SW has been making significant changes on a yearly basis. Some of these
changes require making yearly changes to any programs/macros just to
keep them running. They have even changed the languages used for the
programming interface although VB is still available. So if you do
automate you have to figure in a cost for updating code on a yearly basis.

VB is OK for many people although using VB with OOPS is a stretch for
    the average joe.

The macro editor frequently doesn't pick up enough of what you were
doing to make macros that will repeat what was recorded without serious
editing/research. Sometimes you will run into a situation where SW has
not opened up functionality that is available through the GUI for
    programming.
