Solidwork Dream machine

    Hello,

    could you tell me what will be a dream machine if you plan to do big
    cosmos flowork analisys,

    I'm not working with SW I'm technician in IT my engineer ask me a real
    machine cause right now the standard time for him to do an analisys is
    about 2-3 days !

    I plan to install Win64 and we plan to spend about 10k$ , so please be
    honest with a real dream machine.

    You could easily spend 15k, My system is faster than most, but it did
    not cost that much. Durring FEA the hard drives are running constantly
    because it analyses data blocks individually, then stores them then
    comes back and reanalyses them passing the changes from block to block.
    The file that you are looking at gets very big while you are analysing
    it. I use a multi-processesor server board. With 4 small (147gb) 15k
    SCSI in raid for the program and operating system, then two big ide
    drives for storage. It has 12gb ram. The drain on speed comes from the
    moving those big data blocks. So the sustained data speed of a fast
    scsi makes a huge difference. For the modeler I have two nvidia 256mb
    video cards with two 21 inch monitors. You could spend alot on the
    video cards, but solid works does not have much color depth so I don't
    think you would notice the extra money you spent. Projects that I used
    to have to run over night, now I do at lunch. Look at xicomputer.com
    they have a configuation wizard that should help.
