Does anyone know how to make a negative angle (undercut) in solidcam?
If you don't get an answer here try: www.cnczone.com and look for the SolidCAM forum. Charles Davis use to be the Mastercam dealer for San Diego (San Diego CADCAM) and is now selling SolidCAM. He is based in Kentucky now. Previous to this he worked for Point Control who created SmartCAM. When Charles Davis was posting to the E-Mastercam forum he liked to call SmartCAM "StupidCAM". Here are some Charles Davis quotes from the CNC Zone SolidCAM Forum. "I previously worked for 13 years with Mastercam (if you used Mastercam, you might know me as the reseller covering the San Diego/ Baja area, and author of the Mastercam Handbooks)." "I'm a real believer in SolidCAM. I am also a total believer that this industry needs to adopt integrated CAD/CAM solutions; the productivity benefits are simply too great to ignore." Charles Davis should be able to help you with your questions on SolidCAM. Charles Davis posts as NextGenMfg on CNC Zone.
Typically clueless, doesn't know the answers so he just spews quotes which don't answer the question either. Daisy.
"When Charles Davis left San Diego the customer was left holding the bag with a 5 axis post that does not properly support their Haas milling machines. Charles Davis former customer offered me a job. I took another one." - clueless on Apr 28 2007 "Even thought they don't blame her they don't feel they got a fair shake from Charles "StupidCAM" = SmartCAM Davis. From what they showed me I tend to agree with them. You can blame the customer all you want. I have met them and I believe them." - clueless on Apr 28 2007 HTH
I see you took my suggestion. Charles Davis / NextGenMfg has responded to your question in the SolidCAM forum on CNC Zone and wants clarification.
I never got your email on solidworks embedded software. maybe set your This time I will upload it and send you a link via e-mail. I'll do it this afternoon. Please let me know if you don't get it.
Chamber Pot and Cliff, I don't want to set off a flame-fest, but please, don't assume you know what my machining and CAD/CAM knowledge is. I've worked in this industry since 1986, have owned my own prototype machine shop, and have a lot of experience with 3-5 axis milling. http://www.volumesdirect.com/detail.aspx?ID=3024 Of course I know what an undercut is. I am relatively new to SolidCAM, and so am not yet sure of all the ways to accomplish every machinining requirement (but I'm getting there fast!). I asked for clarification once you know exactly what the goal is, you can often suggest multiple ways to accomplish the same thing. Again, I do not want to start an arguement, but assuming you are an honest broker (that is, no hidden agenda) then why assume the worst? If this forum is to be useful, and not loose all its credibility and usefullness, then it has to rise above snap-judgement finger- pointing.
Charles, IIRC It was jb's clueless chops that got busted (as usual), not yours. BTW, I'm not one to suggest trying to build CAD/CAM systems out of parts & bits from multiple vendors either but to each their own.
