Yeah they screwed that deal up a long time ago. Years back (like 5-6) SolidWorks approached Solid Solutions Mag to giving New SolidWorks Customers a Years subscription with each seat purchase and they declined. I don't know what SolidWorks' offer was to Solid Solutions but, they missed out on some huge exposure. Ken
In all fairness, it wasn't really the folks at Solid Solutions Magazine that were the problem. I worked with the former editor a lot and she was energetic, friendly, and had a good idea about what the magazine should have become. Her departure was sudden and sad. Her successor was also someone with good ideas, and a desire to improve what was left of the rag after the pdf fiasco. Unfortunately, he too was crippled by the policies of the parent company - Connect Press. That's where the blame should fall. All of the major decisions including pdf, the swcommunity site, and the lack of proper resource management belong squarely on thier shoulders. I had the opportunity to speak with someone from Connect Press a couple of months ago. I told her that we were unhappy with the direction that Solid Solutions was taking and would like to have it fixed. She told me to expect something really great coming soon, and it turned out to be this community thing. I think it's the best we'll ever get. Richard
I bought a two year subscription when I started using SolidWorks. They couldn't even get it together to tell me that my subscription was running out, so I missed a number of issues. I subscribe to a lot of magazines and they are the only one that was ever so stupid. I'm afraid they don't have much business sense. Jerry Steiger Tripod Data Systems "take the garbage out, dear"
I think someone needs to start this again (Printed copy), but under a new name and with a company that cares about Solidworks. I would love to see something out there again that people want to read. I know I enjoyed reading the SS Articles. I would love to see something reappear in the same fashion. Heck, if I had the backing I would start it myself. I know I have a lot of love for the software.
