Solid Fill Gray Hatch overwriting other info R2004

    Windows XP, AutoCAD 2004, HP Business Inkjet 2600.

    I am hatching in the layout and cannot find a way to get hatching to merge with elements in the layout or in the viewport inside that layout.

    Lines Merge is selected in my Custom Properties. The hatch is sent to back in the layout.

    Unfortunately, it seems to happen randomly. At least, I can't determine what is different, if anything, when plotting. Also, same driver is used on 2 different workstations and one workstation has never been able to plot the hatch in the layout merged.

    Need help. Issue has plagued me for some time now. Tried local tech support with no luck.
