Snapping to gaps in hidden linetypes

    I'm looking for a way to allow snap/osnap to points on a line/polyline
    with a linetype containing gaps, such as HIDDEN. I have a block that
    represents the top view of a C-shaped aluminum channel member, with a
    hidden line representing
    the vertical part of the "C". There are occasions when I need to be
    able to OSNAP to some point on the hidden line, but I can't snap to
    anyplace on the gaps in the line. I need a way to either (a) osnap to
    the gap or (b) change the hidden line to something else that still
    looks like a hidden line, but can be snapped to.

    Any ideas?

    another possibility is to temporarily change the layer the line is on thus
    changing the line type to solid or, depending on how your linetype is setup, just
    temporarily change the linetype to solid, pick your point, etc. then change it
    back.
