    hi

Am I right in thinking that its possible to layout individual modules I have
in design heirarchy individually, opposed to the whole design all at once.

I'd like to be able to layout the various modules then import them into the
DFII library for use in other designs perhaps. Say for example I have a FSM
which controls the my design, can I layout this out then read it back into
the DFII library, and so on for the various other modulets. Then glue all
these layouts together at a later stage in Silicon ensemble, thus to form a
bigger layout; clearly my final layout would then have definitive
    identifiable blocks.

The gates Im using from our vendor all seem to have indvidual layouts, which
are in the library. The vendor only supports SE so I cant use any other
    layout tools.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Yes, you can.

    - with module layout (gds file), generate module/IP LEF file (using
    Cadence's Abstract Generator).
    - import module LEF into Cadence's SE.
    - placement and routing using SE.
    - export DEF/gds file file from SE. DEF/gds file contains routing
    information and module placement information.
    - import DEF/gds file to Cadence's icfb/opus.

    thanks,
