Ok here's the sinerio. I open my Outlook Express 6, and when I'm in the
Autodesk newsgroup more than an hour I hit my F5 key to update the list, and
the server crashes or locks up. What gives?

Are they still working on the server, or is this a bug that we have to deal
    with.

I'm getting tired of shutting down Outlook and re-launching it.

  2. Rudy,

Are you receiving a TCP/IP error, or is it more severe (OE client crash, etc.)

We're aware of known TCP/IP errors and are working to resolve them (still). Updates and status on this an other issues are available at http://www.autodesk.com/discussion-announcements

To be honest, I don't really know which.

I press the F5 key to update the listing, and the server spits up lost
    connection or has been dropped.

    Sometimes it just locks up.

I find it's easier to just close and reopen Outlook to reload everything.

I hope this helps, I'll pay more attention to exact verbatim.

  4. I feel your pain : I can't use OE 5.5 at all -- I get the helpful "Unable to connect to the server" error despite dumping / refreshing / unsubscribing / removing account / rebooting ad nauseum and have to use the clunky web interface instead; most annoying.

I do know that I can not use the html (web page) version of AutoDesk's forum
to view and reply to posts. I can get to the list of topics, but if I choose
a topic to view/reply, a new window pops up that stays blank. The page
    never loads.

I have never used newsgroups with Outlook, but I was forced to learn because
I can not load the pages with Internet Explorer. I think there are some
problems that they have to work out.

The only problems like this that we've heard of are a couple of companies where the firewalls are not configured to allow NNTP (port 119) access to discussion.autodesk.com. The IP address of the server did change in mid-December, and at those customer locations a firewall configuration had to be updated.

We can't think of any server-side explanation for the problem you describe.

Could you submit more information, including browser version, in the feedback form?

I was just playing around with my settings and "disabled" my Norton Internet Security. I was able to view and reply to this post using Internet Explorer. The problem must be with the Norton software.

  9. For at least 5 years I had no problems using various incarnations of OE to access the newsgroups. After the "upgrades" *poof*: unable to access the newgroups using OE 5.5 (as previously described).
