Send license to person in the field

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by xxxTed Schaefer, Aug 4, 2004.

  1. We use a license server and lic borrowing when disconnected.
We have people that work in the field for a couple months and
then they are in the office for the rest of the year.

We have run into the situation quite frequently where their stay
in the field is extended and their license expires. We need to
email them an extension, a token, a dat, an exe.... whatever that
doesn't force them to reconnect to the network.

Can this be done? If not, why not?

  2. Why not give them stand-alone installs? For that kind of period, it just
    makes sense.

You can't borrow a network license for a couple of months. The standalone
license is perfect for situations like this when you can't connect to the
network (hence its name). See http://www.autodesk.com/activation.

  4. What is the procedure of converting a network license to standalone and
    back again?

Is this something easy to do from the subscription page on a moment's
    notice?

I suppose we have to change lic files each time when the user goes
in and out of the office. Does the user have to register on-line,
then de-register when they are back in the office and connect to the lic
    server?

  5. If it's the same user on the same machine that's making the trip, why do
they need to return the license? They can use the stand alone license in the
office just as easily as in the field.

Unfortunately, no, it's not that easy. Install network licensing for the
people that say in one location or go out for short field visits. Install
stand-alone seats for people that deploy for extended periods. Your reseller
is SUPPOSED to understand this, and can give you pricing to match your
situation. If they don't, get a new reseller.
