Selecting sectioned parts

Discussion in 'SolidWorks' started by Mickey Reilley, Dec 12, 2003.

  1. I'm running 2004 SP1 and am having a problem working on sectioned
assemblies. As I move my mouse around I get red lines and outlines of faces
showing up on parts that are hidden. This makes selecting visible surfaces
very difficult because they are often hidden behind the non-visible
surfaces. Is there a way to make SWX only highlight visible objects?

  2. Look under System Options/Drawings. Do you have "Select hidden entities"
turned on? Turning it off may help.

  3. Turn this off.
    Tools>Options>System Options>Drawings>Select Hidden Entities.

  5. Thanks for the suggestions, but neither works. This is an easily
reproducible phenomenon (not yet ready to call it a bug) and the only way
I've found to remedy this is to unsection and then resection the assembly.
Here's how to get the problem to happen:

    1. Model a solid cylinder and a hollow cylinder.
    2. Insert one of each into an assembly and mate them coaxial.
    3. Section the assembly such that the section plane is coplanar with the
    axes of the cylinders.
    4. Move the floating cylinder (I'm assuming one is fixed).
    5. Now, mouse over where the cylinder was and you get the red highlights
showing the sectioned face of the cylinder that you just moved.

It seems like SWX is not updating all of the information it has in
memory/video memory when you move something. I don't remember this
happening in 2003, which I will try next. So far I have been unimpressed by
    2004.

  6. Ctrl-Q fixes the "ghost" selection problem instead of unsectioning and
sectioning again. If I hide a part while the assembly is sectioned, I
continue to get the red highlights as I mouse over it unless I unsection and
section again. I have both check boxes unchecked as mentioned in previous
    replies.
