I am working with an autocad map and would like to select a rectangular area of the map and paste it into another autocad drawing.

It seems that I can only select entire objects.. I can not figure out how to select just the contents of a rectangular area...

I have been trimming all the lines to the rectangular area I wish to copy...but this is quite time consuming.

Anybody know of an easier way to do this?

    Thanks.

You can only select whole entities in Autocad. Not a portion of one. If you
have Express tools use EXTRIM for your trimming. If not select the entities
to trim using a fence. Much quicker.

Also if you are using Map. Why are you using copy / paste instead of Query?

thanks, I figured it out a different way

I just inserted the whole drawing as a block into a new file and then used XCLIP to select a rectangular area.

  4. But how did you clip the 'now invisible' entities outside the clip polygon.
Microstation had the ability to create a fence polygon and export/clip all
entities inside/outside that area, very useful tool to repair or replace
    portions of a drawing.

XCLIP to select a rectangular area.
