Why is it that when I employ Windows puppy to search for files *.sldasm it finds
42 of them, but Solidworks Explorer 2008 finds none?

SW Explorer relies on Windows Indexing to find files and references.
Indexing does not work right on network drives.

At least SW's programmers got paid for meeting a half-baked spec for a
half-baked function. Never mind the fact that it doesn't work right.

what version of SWx are you using. if it is 2008 then SWx explorer
relies on Windows Desktop Explorer (WDS) to function. if you did not
install WDS then it will find nothing. if you did install WDS then
you need to index the hard drive to find anything.

and the windows puppy is the standard search companion in windows
    explorer. iQ
