I am currently in the process of designing and updating a number of
electrical/instrumentation drawings for various projects. Sadly the existing
drawings are far from adequate and are only scanned images (TIFF). I would
be grateful if anyone could recommend any software that would convert part
or all of the file into an autocad friendly format.

There are several that convert to DXF.
    You might try Scan2CAD

As with all such programmes the output depends on the input.

I think CADALYST did a review a while back of the raster-to-vector products
available. All of them had their strengths and weaknesses. They're a bit like
text recognition programs - often of little use for professional output.

If the drawings are not too complex you might want to consider simply
importing them to AutoCad and drawing over them.

  4. We specialize in raster to vector conversions.

If you will specify the specifics (i.e. # of files, ACAD version needed,
etc.) along w/ a sample file, we will develop a quote for the
conversions. Very economical. See our "NEWS" section to read an
article on a similar project where we were able to save the client
    several thousand dollars.
