Scale Factor

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by kirsten.pines, May 26, 2006.

  1. I have come from an AutoCAD background.

When i set up a drawing and set the viewport scale, i can use zoom
1/1000xp to get my drawing displaying at 1:1000 scale on my page.

I have discovered that in Map 3D, there is this issue i am having where
by if i scale my viewport the same way, zoom 1/1000xp my image is too
small for the page and to get it to actually scale at 1/1000, i must
    zoom 1/1xp.

At the bottom of my screen on the tray next to the maximise viewport
button is the 'scale factor' which indicates 1:1000.

I imagine this has something to do with the fact that when i scale my
VP to 1:1, it displays at 1:1000. And when i wish to show 1:500 scale,
i will have to scale my VP to 1/2xp.

HOW do i change the default scale factor from 1:1000 to 1:1 as it is in
    AutoCAD?

  2. Are you certain you know what a "unit" is in this drawing? This kind of
confusion is common in metric drawings where one expects "unit" to mean
millimeter but it's actually a meter.

    Hi
Sorry but I done a lot of plotting and when it say that plottet unit is
millimeter and you plot 1:1 then the unit is millimeter.
I wonder if K is talking about the screen , omit Pspace or confuse
scale the useal way this is often confused with AutoCAD.
I never had trouble drawing with millimeter unit and plotting one to
one , --- but I guess this is becaurse I read the manuals and know
that with AutoCAD you draw one to one and only scale when you plot.

  4. Maybe I got it backwards...The plot dialog says "so many mm. = so many
    drawing units"
and if you are mistaken about the drawing units, you can end up with a very,
    very small plot.

No I don't think so --- Drawing unit =mm. So when I check 1:1 the plot
_alway's come out in the right scale. Eh when millimeter is set as
    unit. Mspace.

  6. Plotting dialogue has changed a bunch. This wasn't the way back in
    now-ancient R14.

Of all the changes that have happened since R14, one of the most
significant is the way the plot manager is structured - and most
significantly the fact that plot settings are saved with the drawing. For
those of us who are doing many different assignments, and not similar
things from day to day, this is a huge savings in time and headaches.

  8. Hi, no i'm plotting the paperspace as 1:1.

My question is about the scale factor displayed at the bottom of the
screen (in 2006 version). In my application (Map3d) the default is
    1:1000.

This means that when i scale my VP by zooming relative to Paper space
inside the viewport, when i z 1/1xp the real scale is 1:1000.

Whereas when i was working in AutoCAD, if i scaled 1/1xp the scale
would literally display 1:1 in my viewport.
