SaladWorks 2006: It's All About AutoCAD / Autodesk.

Discussion in 'SolidWorks' started by jon banquer, May 21, 2005.

  1. Just so you know, this is not a discussion about facts. It's all about
    feelings.

I think that having the DWG editor is a great move for solidworks to
make and it is a true benefit to existing users who still have 2D
    legacy data.

If this trend continues, Dassault will end up renaming SolidWorks:

    DWGsolids -- SolidWorks' improved name.
DWGviewer -- publish and view CAD drawings.
DWGgateway -- translate .dwg files between releases.
DWGEditor -- .dwg file editor based on IntelliCAD

Not really. Haas may win the sales and marketing strategies, but Fadal

That all depends on who you ask. A lot of folks believe the Haas is a
    better machine.

If you ask me, it's like arguing over which smells better, dog crap,
    or cat crap.

  4. I'm wondering if this is like a "Gateway" program - will it lead to
"hard" CAD usage? Will I eventually want to revert to ACAD for
    everything?

Will it ruin my life in the end?

It is free (for now), but wait until I really need this thing BADLY
then they force me to pay . . .

    :)

To better reflect the truth of what SolidWorks has become how about:

    SolidAutoWorks

Seems to me that if what I quoted is full of BS you should be e-mailing
upFronteZine and telling them that they are full of BS. :>)

Most people seem to feel upFronteZine is a very credible publication.
    I'm one of those people.

I agree that FADAL is a better machine mechanically, but not control
wise, when compared to Haas. I also think that SVL has made a very valid
point about better parts availability from other sources for FADAL's
than the limited choice one has with Haas. (Limited as in very limited.)

Haas may end up making more money on replacement parts then they ever
    will selling machines

I'm criticizing SaladWorks for a marketing and development strategy that
is totally focused on trying to be more AutoCAD like.

    I don't believe a CAD/CAM company can build a seamless, unified, hybrid
modeler in a timely manner utilizing this approach.
I think VX should continue to do *exactly what they are now doing* with
the approach they have taken to improve VX's UI.

While this is happening I think VX should try and become the best
documented CAD/CAM program on the market by utilizing someone who is
already in their organization who I believe can (possibly with some
help) create very advanced tutorials on how to extract the awesome
    hybrid power that VX has.

If VX does the above the sales will happen.

Copying Autodesk is not the right move for VX and I think VX knows this.

Ummmm ..... poor clueless does not actually use ANY
system for ANYTHING. Never has AFAIK.
He's neither a designer nor a CAM programmer.
IF he ever actually gets a job in a real machine shop it's
probably pushing a broom. And he cannot even hold
such jobs for long .... too many pretty butons available
just begging to be pushed I fear .....
