ROMANS.shx font plots differently now?

OK, dumb question. My drawing text is largely ROMANS.shx font. Recently it
started plotting differently. Any character with a peak to it (ie the
letters A, M, N etc.) plots with an extend point to the peak of the
character. My text looks like it belongs on the cover of an Elvira movie.,
all spooky looking. As far as I know I have not changed any settings but
there is something wrong. Any suggestions? Thanks

Thanks for the reply Dean. I should have mentioned in my original post that
I am using and have been using an HP Deskjet 1220c not a laser printer.
Everything used print fine. Now those certain letters are out of shape. I'm
    stumped.
