Rogue Windows Installer for SWKS 2004

Yesterday I started an installation of SolidWorks 2004, but had to
cancel it (due to a workday priority) before going any further than
launching the routine and looking at the initial screen dialog on
which the selections for program installation appear.

After removing the CD (and leaving the drive EMPTY) and rebooting my
computer this morning, I find nonetheless that messages appear to tell
me that the system is preparing to install SolidWorks 2004. After
cancelling the message dialog, another one with the same information
    appears...

Apparently the Windows Installer leaves files behind and makes
Registry entries to cause the repeating attempts to install.

Has anyone else experienced this behavior?

Yes, I had the same thing happen way back with the free copy of Visio I received with SWX 2001 ( I think).
IIRC, I had to start the install again then cancel it but leave the CD in the drive until all of the install garbage is
    removed.
