  2. Good morning.

Back when the Pentium II was first released, our company would only
purchase branded PCs (i.e. Compaq, Intergraph, HP) which were designed
for CAD & Mapping applications. They said they had the specs to meet
the number crunching needs of these softwares. However, we have
noticed since the PIII, PIV, AMD XP came out, there is really no more
division between a regular off the shelf PC and the so-called
workstations. A branded PC now costs anywhere from $1,500 - $2,000.
With that amount, I can get 2 AMD XP, 512 MB, 80 GB HD, Video
Accelator, etc. from China. The ones I am buying from Chine will last
as long and is as reliable for maybe 2 years, then I can upgrade to
the next processor without worrying about replacement cost because I
can still use it for other purposes.

On a side note, We are still using an Intergraph Pentium Pro bought 5
years ago. Cost then was around $2,500. So quality has its price but
    as to speed, well ....

    my 2 cents worth
